August 11, 1999 I-CAR CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY AT THE 1999 I-CAR INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL MEETING (St. Charles, IL) Supporters from all segments of the Collision Industry came to celebrate I-CARs 20th Anniversary at the I-CAR International Annual Meeting held July 22 - 25, 1999, in St. Charles, IL. Many important Industry discussions and presentations took place at this year's Annual Meeting. Two impressive panels of Industry experts were assembled for discussions on important Industry changes and developments. The first panel discussion focused on major trends within the Insurance Industry. This panel included: Tony Molla - Moderator, Automotive Body Repair News & Motor Age; Tim Clark, SAFECO Insurance Company of America; John Kent, State Farm Insurance Company; Scott Morgan, Integon Insurance Company; Nick Notte, Tech-Cor, Inc.; and Derek Vettese, Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. The second panel discussion focused on how consolidation is changing the Collision Repair Industry. This panel included: Rick Tuuri - Moderator, ADP/Claims Solutions Group; Charles B. Baker, Collision Industry Insight Magazine; Gene Hamilton, Sport & Imports Collision; Bill Lawrence, Caliber Collision Centers; Jonathan McNeill, Sterling Collision Centers; and Robert Rick, ABRA Auto Body and Glass. Technical clinics were offered this year, for the first time, by more than 20 leading organizations in the Collision Industry. The technical clinics were very well-attended and will continue to be a part of future ICAR International Annual Meetings. Tom Mack, I-CAR Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, made a much anticipated announcement concerning I-CAR Enhanced Delivery. He announced that 23 I-CAR courses utilizing the new Enhanced Delivery methods will become available during the first quarter of the calendar year beginning January 1, 2000. Twenty-two additional programs will be available by June 30, 2000, and by the end of 2000, 59 of the 74 programs will be available. Rick Tuuri, Incoming Chair of the I-CAR Board of Directors, gave an insightful and entertaining incoming Chair address at the General Session. He reviewed I-CAR's unique accomplishments over the past 20 years, and spoke of the renewed commitment that will be required in order for I-CAR to succeed in accomplishing its mission for another 20 years. Also at the General Session, a panel discussion was held to allow the I-CAR Executive Committee and Executive Staff to address attendees' questions and concerns. Other highlights of the General Session included the keynote address, the Awards Banquet, and the Recognition Luncheon. Laurie Skreslet, the first Canadian to successfully climb to the summit of Mt. Everest, was the keynote speaker. He gave an inspirational presentation on how personal commitment, teamwork, and dedication to excellence are the keys to success which enable people to climb their own "mountains of endeavor." Many dedicated members of the Industry were recognized at the Awards Banquet and the Recognition Luncheon. Congratulations to all the award winners!
