June 23, 1997 NEW "GET ACQUAINTED WITH I-CAR" SYMPOSIUM (Rolling Meadows, IL) Approximately 290 people attended the "Get Acquainted with I-CAR" Symposium held May 14, 1997 at the Red Lion Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. One hundred and seventy-seven Los Angeles area collision repair businesses were represented at the event. The evening included a sit down dinner, speakers and displays from 29 area vendors. The theme of the evening was "Continuing Education in the Collision Industry." Small to medium size collision repair businesses whose employees had little to no previous I-CAR Training were invited to learn more about I-CAR. The intent of the "Get Acquainted with I-CAR" Symposium is to stimulate new interest in I-CAR Training and to increase the level of training in the Collision Industry as a whole. Fifteen speakers were on hand to speak about the benefits and the importance of continued education and training in the Collision Industry. Speakers included: Tom Brizuela of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Randy Dewing of BodyShop Video, Tom Doyle of DuPont, Jimmie Lee Harris of Garmat USA, Gene Hausknecht of BASF, Robert Hornedo of Car-O-Liner Company, Ike Issacson of CCC Information Services, Dennis Kawasawa of Thompson PBE, David Knappe of Akzo Coatings, Dwayne Marshall of Mitchell International, Dave Norquist of 3M, Beverly Ortiz of SAS Safety Corporation, Ed Staquet of Lord Corporation, Jeff Warren of Duramix and Ron Kuehn of I-CAR. The event was funded with the assistance of Allstate Insurance Company, The Automobile Club of Southern California, PARNET, State Farm Insurance Company, 20th Century Insurance Company and other industry suppliers. The evening was organized by Toby Chess and Sandy Cumberland, I-CAR District Co-Chairs for Los Angeles. "I think the best part of the symposiums is that they are being used as a basis to stimulate interest in education, and hopefully they will continue to increase awareness of the importance of training within the Collision Industry," said Toby Chess, District Chair. I-CAR would like to thank all who helped to make this event a success.
