I-CAR DEVELOPS AND CONDUCTS TRAINING FOR AUDI A8

Aluminum welding and body and structural repair training for the all-aluminum Audi A8 will take place at the I-CAR Tech Centre in Appleton, Wisconsin. Through this relationship between I-CAR and Audi, the two-week Audi A8 training program will consist of program development and live delivery for the training participants.

To prepare for the program, I-CAR Tech Centre Technical Specialists/Trainers Joel McClung and Nathan Rebarchik attended a train-the-trainer program conducted by Audi in Neckarsulm, Germany.

Using the train-the-trainer materials received in Germany, the Tech Centre staff developed the customized two-week Audi A8 program. During the first week, participants will learn about Audi aluminum welding technology. They will then prepare and test for the TÜV Aluminum Welding Certification. Week two consists of Audi A8 Body and Structural Repair, which covers A8 design and construction, damage analysis, structural repair guidelines, riveting and adhesive repairs, cosmetic panel repairs, and a discussion of mechanical and restraint systems. To offer the best learning environment, a complete Audi A8 repair bay has been installed at the I-CAR Tech Centre just for the training program.

Each of the two-week training programs will allow six students per session with extensive "hands-on" exercises. Potential students must enter into this program through Audi of America. Two additional 2004 training sessions are already scheduled for the fall, with additional sessions to follow in 2005. Several one-week training programs to re-certify existing A8 technicians will begin in 2005.

I-CAR Tech Centre Video Production and Research Manager Bob Wipf said, "Our objective is to help Audi of America deliver this important training to its North American market and allow I-CAR to learn more about the vehicle-specific repair processes used on the all-new Audi A8. Learning early about how the Audi A8 is constructed and which repair procedures are recommended allow us to make sure that future I-CAR and I-CAR Education Foundation training is on target for the collision industry."

I-CAR, ASE, I-CAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION, AND NATEF TO HOLD DRAWING FOR SNAP-ON TOOL BOX AT NACE 2004

SNAP-ONI-CAR, ASE, I-CAR Education Foundation, and NATEF will co-sponsor a drawing for a Snap-on toolbox for qualified NACE and APPEX attendees. To be eligible to win the toolbox, entrants must visit all four co-sponsored booths during NACE and be I-CAR trained as well as ASE-certified, or be a student attending an ASE-certified NATEF career and technical school or college, which also utilizes the I-CAR curriculum.

A "T.E.C.H. Passport" will be provided to all interested in entering the drawing. This Passport must be stamped at the I-CAR, ASE, I-CAR Education Foundation and NATEF booths during NACE. Once the trip "around the world" of training, education, and certification is complete, the "Passport" entry should be dropped into the Snap-on toolbox, which will be on display during the NACE exposition. The winner will then be randomly selected at the conclusion of Saturday's NACE exposition day.

"We are grateful to Snap-on for donating the toolbox for this special promotion at NACE," said Ron Weiner, ASE president. "It's a great way to spotlight the value that training, education, and certification brings to the collision industry."

I-CAR Executive Vice President and CEO Tom McGee said, "This promotion is a unique opportunity for I-CAR, ASE, I-CAR Education Foundation, NATEF, and Snap-on to recognize the importance of training, education, and certification in today's collision industry. One I-CAR trained and ASE-certified individual or a student in one of North America's leading career or technical school or college that is ASE-certified to the NATEF standards and uses the I-CAR curriculum will receive this special recognition of their commitment to excellence in collision repair."

Once NACE attendees have visited each of the four co-sponsoring booths and have had their Passport stamped, they will need to drop it off at the Snap-on tool box which will be on display during NACE during these times:

Thursday, November 4th

ASE CertifiedNATEF - booth #'s 4524 & 4523

Friday, November 5th

I-CAR – booth #1809

Saturday, November 6th

I-CAR Education Foundation – booth #2602

NACE 2004 will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada from November 3-6, 2004. For more information regarding NACE visit www.naceexpo.com or call 888.529.1641.

I-CAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND "THE MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN OF THE COLLISION REPAIR INDUSTRY" OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS

For the third consecutive year, the I-CAR Education Foundation, in conjunction with Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc. and "The Most Influential Women of the Collision Repair Industry," is proud to announce an exciting scholarship opportunity for female collision repair students.

In October of 2003, nine students from career and technical schools and colleges across the United States were awarded with scholarships to continue their education in the collision repair industry. The top scholarship winner of 2003 was Tiffany Chadges, a student at Lake County Technical High School in Grayslake, Illinois. "Knowing that I can make it in this world doing something I have shared my father's love for makes me want to pursue this career even more. Getting into the field of collision repair is only the beginning of what was once a childhood fantasy," said Chadges after receiving her scholarship.

In order to promote both the increasing importance of a skilled and educated workforce, as well as recognizing the increasing leadership roles and growing opportunities for women in the industry, Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc. has established the "Most Influential Women of the Collision Repair Industry" program. This program annually recognizes the leadership contributions that are made by a unique group of individuals that have dedicated themselves to the betterment of this industry and their communities.

On behalf of "The Most Influential Women of the Collision Repair Industry," Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc. has chosen to donate funds to the I-CAR Education Foundation for scholarships so that additional opportunities might be created for women in the collision repair industry. Applicants for the scholarships must be a senior that is in a collision repair training class with plans to continue their education in collision repair after graduation, or a student already enrolled in a post-secondary program. The monies will be paid for post-secondary education or to attend I-CAR training programs.

This year there will be two $5,000 scholarships awarded, as well as four $2,000 runner-up scholarships. The Education Foundation will announce the winners at NACE this November. A total of 249 secondary schools that are ASE-certified to the NATEF standards received a letter and student application for this scholarship. Both the student applicant and instructor were asked to write a short essay explaining why the student should be awarded the scholarship.

Any questions relating to this program, please contact I-CAR Education Foundation Programs and Services Administrator Michelle Shotkoski at 888.722.3787, Ext. 283.
