I-CAR COMMITTEE CREATES STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS THROUGH SECOND ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENTNearly 90 people turned out to support the second annual golf tournament hosted by the I-CAR Columbus, Ohio committee. Held on Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Landings at Rickenbacker Golf Course, the tournament raised funds that will be used to purchase I-CAR class coupons and awarded as scholarships to winning students of local career and technical schools and colleges.The Columbus committee visits local career and technical schools and colleges to present information to the students highlighting the importance of continued collision repair training. The students who would like to be considered for the scholarships submit an essay on why they have decided to enter the collision repair industry along with letters of recommendation from their parents and instructors. The Kumler family, of Kumler Collision in Lancaster, Ohio, then reviews the scholarship applications and selects one or two students from each career and technical school and college to receive the scholarships. Keith Kumler, Sr., who helped organize the original I-CAR Columbus committee and highly believed in I-CAR and continued collision repair training, passed away 10 years ago. Keith Kumler, Jr. has continued in his father’s footsteps by assisting his family select one or two scholarship recipients from each career and technical school and college visited by the committee. The scholarships will be awarded to the selected students in an awards presentation that will take place in February. Last year’s winners were each presented with five I-CAR class coupons. |

I-CAR CANADA HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING AS PART OF THE FIRST CANADIAN COLLISION INDUSTRY CONGRESS Collision industry professionals gathered September 18-19, 2003 for the I-CAR Canada Annual Meeting, which took place at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ontario. This meeting was also held in conjunction with the Canadian Collision Industry Congress (CCIC) meeting.
I-CAR Instructor Advisory Committee Chair Steve Hudey hosted the instructor day on Thursday. Hudey presented the committee’s initiatives and projects to the group and also spoke about ideas on how the committee could better serve active I-CAR instructors. Newly appointed I-CAR Canada Field Operations Support Manager Jean-Marc Julien then walked the group through a presentation on Structural Foams and the online training program. I-CAR Canada Field Manager Tracey Blouin challenged the group to participate in a breakout session during the informative and enlightening committee workshop on Thursday. Through this breakout session, many recognized that there are different ways of gaining both public and industry recognition of I-CAR and its training programs. Goals and objectives were established as to how this could be accomplished and the group plans on being able to report a positive progression in the coming months.
The Friday General Session included a presentation from I-CAR Executive Vice President and CEO Tom McGee. McGee highlighted the development of the I-CAR Enhanced Delivery curriculum, web site projects, online instructor training opportunities, I-CAR Industry Training Alliance partners and much more! I-CAR Education Foundation Executive Director Ron Ray highlighted all the hard work that the Education Foundation has done in addressing the recruitment needs of the industry and increasing the number of career and technical schools and colleges within the Industry Training Alliance. This also included a special presentation from Ed Debeuckelaere, of Red River College, who spoke about student and employer benefits through becoming an Alliance partner. Tracey Blouin then began her presentation highlighting the successful year I-CAR had in Canada during the past fiscal year. Blouin specifically thanked all volunteers and instructors that helped Canada meet their goals. However, the industry has been challenged this year to increase activity and therefore a call went out to increase the volunteer and instructor base. It was also pointed out that one of Canada’s current exciting activities is an expansion of satellite training and continuing to work closely with the CARS Network and CARSTAR. This is a project that was piloted in January of this year and will be introduced in February 2004. The meeting was capped off Saturday evening with an Awards Banquet. Not only did Fortier display those characteristics, but he also lead the way in translating six I-CAR programs into French and also taught over 90% of the classes that were held in the province of Quebec last year. Founders Award:
Jack was a true leader in his marketplace. The committee he chaired held two successful industry awareness events and, as chair, it was imperative to him that the committee members, every company and individuals that supported I-CAR was recognized whenever possible. His own recognition was not as important to him. Although he has since then resigned as committee chair, he is still very involved. District Committee Award:

I-CAR Maine instructors and committee members gathered to recognize the local Maine Gold Class Professionals businesses and career and technical schools and colleges. By becoming Gold Class Professionals, these businesses have displayed their commitment to quality and excellence through training. While being thanked for their continued training efforts, each business and career and technical school or college was presented with a commemorative plaque and I-CAR patch.
“Our committee would like to express thanks to all that have made this evening and the Maine committee a success. Without the continued involvement of these I-CAR Gold Class Professionals businesses and our local career and technical schools and colleges, we would not be where we are today,” stated I-CAR Maine Committee Co-chair Jim Caron.

Special guest speakers at this event include I-CAR Northeast Field Manager David Coffey and Welding Qualification Test Manager Audie Swedeen. They will both be on hand to present and discuss information on welding qualification tests, I-CAR Enhanced Delivery training programs and the return on investment for training. This event will discuss the future direction of I-CAR and its related programs.

Every two years, EMS personnel and paramedics in the state of Arkansas are required to attend 48 hours of training and 24 hours of continuing education. Hoffman’s emergency services program meets the requirements as part of that refresher training.
The seminar provides the very latest information on how to scan a collision-damaged vehicle, disarm airbags, disable power sources, locate battery and gas struts, and details about the new hybrid and alternative fuels vehicles.
Hoffman will also be presenting emergency personnel information to the Rogers Arizona Fire Dept for the Springdale/Bentonville/Rogers fire departments on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon.
