Wright stated that there are two initiatives for CIC he will focus on. The first initiative is growing CIC's active participation. He explained that it does not necessarily mean expanding the number of people, but rather having active participation from all that are in attendance at the meetings. This will be Wright's focus for the Gold Pin annual planning meeting to be held in January 2003. The second initiative involves improvement in the quality of presentations so as to bring added value to the CIC experience.
I-CAR Executive Vice President and CEO Tom McGee stated, "As the industry continues to change over the next several years, Roger's industry participation and experience will provide CIC with the necessary leadership and direction to remain focused on discussing and addressing industry issues and trends. While CIC will gain a new leader in Roger Wright, we also need to thank Lou DiLisio for the time, effort, direction, and dedication that he has provided to CIC for the last two years while serving as its Chair."
Wright spent 25 years of his career with major property and casualty insurers managing all aspects of material damage claims training and claims handling. He left the insurance industry in 1998 to work for Collision Team of America as their Director of Insurance Relations and Vice President of Sales in which he oversaw insurance relations for 33 stores and over $100 million in sales. Currently, he is the Vice President of Insurance Relations for CARSTAR, continuing efforts to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with the insurance industry. Wright is also an active participant on collision industry advisory panels and a 1997 inductee into the Collision Industry Hall of Eagles.
The I-CAR Education Foundation recently recognized 11 companies for their continued financial support over the past 10 years. Each company was recognized at the 2002 I-CAR International Annual Meeting in July during the I-CAR Education Foundation Dinner and the General Session. These companies have consistently supported the Foundation since it received 501(C)(3) status in 1991. The Education Foundation will continue to recognize companies each year who contribute to and support its mission, "To attract entry-level candidates and assist in preparing them for careers in the collision industry."
In addition to being recognized during the 2002 International Annual Meeting, all of the following companies are recognized on the Foundation web site, along with all donors, and will be receiving a plaque for their continued efforts.

On October 1, 2002, over 130 industry professionals attended an I-CAR Awareness Night hosted by the Salt Lake City I-CAR District Committee and the Utah Collision Repair Apprenticeship Training Group (UCRAT). This well attended event was held at the Salt Lake City Community College, Miller Campus.
The event's dinner was sponsored at various levels by the following organizations. Gold Level Sponsors were Auto Body Supply; BASF; Sherwin- Williams; Superior Paint Supply; Stockton \ Malone Honda & Toyota; DuPont and I-CAR. Silver Level Sponsors were ABRA Auto Body & Glass; Labrum Auto Wrecking and ABC Paint \ Sikkens. The Bronze Level Sponsors were Ken Garff Automotive Group; Ogden Chrome; Jerry Seiner Parts Department; West Valley CARSTAR; Enterprise Car Rental and Rex Marketing. Because of the generosity of the event's sponsors, an outstanding event and dinner were hosted and funds were raised for the local Utah Collision Repair Apprenticeship Training Group programs.
During the event, special recognition was given to Dr. John LaKevitch and Jim Hoffman, both of the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Automotive Division. Through their fine support, we were able to hold the open house at the new SLCC Miller Campus.
Following dinner, I-CAR Board Chairman Roger Wright from CARSTAR presented "Critical Drivers in Today's Business Environment." This keynote presentation enlightened the group about auto repairer trends and severity.
Other exciting activities during the evening included presentations to collision repair business' apprentice mentors. The new Apprenticeship Chairman of the Utah Collision Repair Apprenticeship Training Group, Stan Ware, presented these awards. Past Chairman Corey Hansen introduced the current committee members: Bob Ellison, Mark Kirk, Mickey Calderwood, Holly Ernst, Tom Davis, Bob Jackson and State Director for Apprenticeship and Training Ron Mattucci. The US Department of Labor also presented plaques to the committee for their outstanding efforts and achievement of a successful program.
I-CAR Utah Lead Instructor Dave Robinette of Farmers Insurance offered the group a sample of the Adhesive Bonding Enhanced Delivery program, demonstrating the visuals, props and the use of objective worksheets. During his presentation, the group was polled to see how many had attended an Enhanced Delivery program.
The final presenter was I-CAR Northwest Field Manager Bob Mickey. His presentation covered the use of the Internet for finding information on class schedules, the Gold Class Professionals and Platinum Individual programs, Enhanced Delivery programs and courses, and position - related training path recommendations.
After the above presentations, the group adjourned to the new lab area for dessert and tours by SLCC Senior Instructor Neal Grover and Apprenticeship Instructor Peter Hoffman, who are also both I-CAR instructors. Sponsors and speakers were available to answer questions after the event concluded.

The registration fee for each conference is $75 for full meeting attendees, and $25 for spouses/guests. Krista Flanagan joined I-CAR on October 28, 2002, as a Marketing Specialist. She will be focusing on the Gold Class Professionals and Platinum Individual programs, as well as the Industry Training Alliance.
Krista holds bachelor degrees in both public relations and marketing from Illinois State University. Krista is from the Chicago suburbs and enjoys spending time in the mountains, cooking, reading and movies. She joins Marketing Communication Specialist Brandon Eckenrode and we look forward to her contributions. Jose Vargas translated the prototype objective worksheets and tests for all future Spanish I-CAR classes and without Jose's dedication to this cause, I-CAR would not have had the Spanish course success that it does currently. Jose has been teaching for I-CAR since 1990 and is also a career and technical instructor at Texas State Technical College, Harlingen Campus. He will also be presenting two Spanish delivered, 90-minute presentations at NACE entitled "What's New with Refinishing" and "What's New with MIG Welding."
This continued success has also been made possible by the local committee involvement as well as the local Spanish community. Yonkers, New York Committee Chair Frank Cocozza stated, "There was an excellent student turnout for the first Spanish program in the New York Metro area. The students who attended this program were so excited about the material and the class experience that they asked to be personally called when more Spanish programs are made available in the future."
The Northeast region, as well as all I-CAR, is looking for more bi-lingual instructors and volunteers that would allow the Spanish courses to reach even more students.
This year at NACE there will be several Enhanced Delivery Spanish programs made available on Thursday, December 5. While the instructor delivery, objectives worksheets and post-tests will be in Spanish, the student CD-ROM and audio-visual presentation will be in English.
