I-CAR INSTRUCTORS AND VOLUNTEERS PRESENTED WITH PALM PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANT (PDA) IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS

I-CAR instructors and volunteers will be presented with new Palm PDAs in recognition of their hard work and efforts to better educate the collision industry. In all, 1,100 Palm PDAs will be distributed over the course of the next two months.

The Palm PDAs will be hand delivered to the instructors and volunteers by each of their respective I-CAR field managers within the United States and Canada. The Palm PDAs have been uploaded with dates for the 2003 I-CAR Regional Conferences, 2003 I-CAR International Annual Meeting, ASE Certification tests, NACE, and also with I-CAR general contact information.

I-CAR Director of Field Operations Dave Heckeler stated, "We wanted to thank our volunteers and instructors in a very special way for all of the time and effort each of them has selflessly given to I-CAR and the industry to provide high quality training. We felt the Palm PDA was the perfect time and organizational management tool to give to a group of people who, in addition to working full time and managing family life, find time to help train the industry. A heart felt thanks to all the I-CAR volunteers and instructors past and present. You have made a difference!"

NORTH CENTRAL INSTRUCTOR AN INTERNATIONAL HOST
By North Central Field Manager Lon Baudoux

Ken Kempfer is one of the most active I-CAR instructors in the north central region. Ken is the Dean of Transportation for Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wisconsin and is constantly recruiting students for his automotive programs and other technical colleges.

For the last two weeks, Ken has hosted German collision repair students and instructors that have come to the United States to learn about this country’s automotive technology under a program called TRANSAUTOTEC. The following U.S. partners developed the program: Wisconsin’s Fox Valley Technical College, Illinois’ Triton College, and Detroit, Michigan’s Macomb College. The European partners for this program include colleges in the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Germany.

This is the program’s second year and it has been a great success. Students stay for four weeks, while the instructors visit for two. The students are responsible for out of pocket expenses, while the travel and curriculum is funded by a federal grant called FIPSE (Fund of Improvement of Postsecondary Education). This program allows students to visit other countries and learn about auto technology as well as the country’s society and culture. Ken has traveled to other countries such as Germany, China and Japan. Exceptional programs such as this allow students to experience automotive repair and culture in other countries.

For more information, please contact I-CAR North Central Field Manager Lon Baudoux.
